Who we are
Mauridoo is a marketplace in Mauritius that connects people who need help at home with local helpers and the companies that employ them. We are the controller of the personal data described here, under the Mauritius Data Protection Act 2017. You can reach us about anything on this page at hello@mauridoo.mu.
What we collect
Your account. Your name, email address and password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
Your profile. Your phone number, your photo, your home area and address, and your notification choices. These are optional until you need them, for example an address when you book.
Bookings and payments. The service, date, time, address and price of each booking, and whether it was paid, refunded or cancelled. We never receive or store your card number: card details go to the payment provider only.
Messages. The messages you send and receive about a booking or an enquiry, and when you last read a conversation.
Reviews. The rating and text you leave after a booking. Your name is published with the review.
If you offer services. Your public listing (services, rates, availability, area and description), the result of your identity check, the result of a check that your photo matches your ID, and your Certificate of Character. Companies also give us their business details and the details of the helpers they manage.
Your devices. If you use our app and allow notifications, we store a token for your device so we can send you notifications. We keep no other device identifier.
Site visits. We count visits without cookies. We keep the page, the site that linked you to us and the type of device. We do not keep your IP address. The cookies page explains how.
We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, or files on your device other than a photo or document you choose to upload.
Why we use it
- To run your account and the bookings you make or accept. This is necessary for the contract between us.
- To let clients and helpers talk about a booking, and to tell you by email or push notification when something happens.
- To check helpers before clients let them into their homes: identity verification, photo match and Certificate of Character.
- To keep the service safe, investigate problems and settle disputes.
- To understand how the service is used, so we can improve it.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Who can see it
Other users. A helper's listing, photo, rating, reviews and check badges are public. A client and a helper see each other's name and photo, and the details of a booking between them, including the address. Your bookings are not visible to anyone else.
Our service providers. They process data for us, only to provide their service:
- Hosting, database and file storage.
- Identity verification and photo matching.
- Sending email and push notifications.
- Taking card payments.
- Signing in, if you choose to sign in with Google.
Some of these providers store data outside Mauritius. We use them only with safeguards required by the Data Protection Act 2017.
The law. We may disclose data when the law requires it.
How we protect it
- All data travels encrypted. Access rules make sure an account can read only its own private data.
- Certificates of Character are kept in private storage. A reviewer opens one through a link that expires after five minutes. Our audit log records that it was opened, never what it said.
- We never store card details. Identity documents stay with our verification provider; we keep only the result of the check.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data, except records we must keep by law, such as payment records, which we keep only for as long as the law requires. We also keep past bookings, with your name on them, because they are a record of work that was done and paid for, for the other person and for us. We remove your photo and address from them. The data we use to count visits cannot identify you after two days.
Delete your account
Sign in and go to Account → Profile → Delete account, on the website or in the app. Type your email address to confirm, and your account is deleted straight away. If you cannot sign in, email hello@mauridoo.mu from the email address on your account and we will do it for you within 30 days.
We delete your account, profile, photo, identity and certificate checks, messages, favourites, device tokens and helper listing. Future bookings are cancelled, anyone who paid gets a full refund, and the other person is told.
We keep past bookings and payments, because they are a record of work that was done and paid for. They keep your name, but not your photo or address. Reviews you wrote stay on the helper's page, signed “Former client”. We keep these records only for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act 2017 you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and object to how we use it. You can change most of your details yourself on your account page. For anything else, email hello@mauridoo.mu.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Office of Mauritius.
Children
Mauridoo is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account.
